Some things just go together — peanut butter & jelly, girl scout cookies & their empty boxes (’tis the season), mashed potatoes & gravy, and a home renovation and a blog. We’re hopping on the bandwagon, folks, and giving you (and by you I mean probably only my parents) a glimpse into how the hell we’re going to remodel this hot mess.
And if you’ve never seen a home renovation blog in real life, feast your eyes on the before pictures.
— THE HOT MESS HOUSE TOUR —
ENTRYWAY.
Cool sconce, huh? Oh, what’s that? You didn’t notice it because you’re distracted by the massive crack in the ceiling? Let me describe it for you: golden flower.
DINING ROOM.
Please note the Betty Boop stained glass trinket below the ceiling fan. The holes to the right of the door were for a rotary phone (sold separately). We have tons of natural light pouring into this space though, so that’s a big win.
LIVING ROOM.
pink. paneling. everywhere.
KITCHEN.
No words. Just grease.
HALL.
BEDROOMS.
They basically all look like this. Mint green walls + I’m pretty sure that’s a bed skirt. Some water damage or termites messed up the sheetrock in this room.
Neighbors house vs. our house. At least our tile game is strong.
Biggest closet in the hizzouse!
GUEST BATH.
We’ll probably keep the wallpaper panel. (#thatwasajoke)
If you’re wondering, that black stuff is electrical tape because, as I’m sure you’ve seen on Pinterest, electrical tape is a great substitute for caulk.
MASTER BATH.
Designed for people who want to pee and wash their hands simultaneously.
Please note the garden hose spray nozzle that is connecting the shower hose to the shower head. Pro tip: if you run out of electrical tape, duct tape is also equally effective.
This shot taken inside the shower.
SUN ROOM.
This space is an added bonus in my opinion. It’s definitely dirty but think of what it could be!
And that exposed brick wall <3
So that’s the overview. While it looks like a fiery hot mess (volcanic actually), we think it just needs a little love. And as it so happens, a home renovation don’t happen overnight (unless you have some serious cash flow AKA not us). That means we’ll be documenting our whole-house remodel on this site, which we’ll be working on mostly during the weekends when we aren’t at our day jobs (again, that cash flow thing). We’re hoping to pay it forward and share the knowledge others have given to us in addition to sharing those well-that-was-a-bad-idea moments that we create all on our own.
Hopefully this is the start of a before & after that has a better ending than the Titanic, but I guess we’ll wait and see. #nopromises
Until next time!
